Meet Jonathan Blum: the founder and owner of JB Consulting Firm, where he channels his extensive expertise into meaningful community advancement. A proud lifelong resident of Siouxland, Jonathan brings a wealth of diverse professional experience to the table for his clients.
With a unique foundation in law and over two decades of combined experience as a lawyer, a planned giving professional, and an educational nonprofit fundraiser, Jonathan is a trusted advisor in philanthropy circles. Notably, he spearheaded planned giving initiatives that contributed to an increase of over $40 million to the Morningside University endowment in his most recent full-time gift planning role. His adeptness in securing substantial planned gifts, including the largest gift in the history of Morningside University (nearly $8 million), has made a tangible difference, fueling transformative projects that have physically reshaped the community.
Jonathan’s unwavering commitment to Siouxland’s vitality drives his work. Passionate about improving lives and creating a brighter future, he remains dedicated to making the region more vibrant and welcoming for generations to come. His wife and daughter are his foundation, providing the mutual love and support necessary to be a small business owner. Jonathan spends his non-work time coaching football and basketball, reading non-fiction, playing pool, golfing, walking his dogs, and painfully following his beloved Cubs, Bears, and Hawkeyes.

There are three traditional ways that JB Consulting may use to customize a billing plan.
- Project fee is a fixed payment for a project within a defined period, with specific deliverables. For example, a flat fee for JB Consulting to create a fundraising infrastructure plan, help execute a capital campaign, design a planned giving program, or draft a specific grant application. This may also include simple estate planning, human resources problem solving, or board of directors development.
- Retainer — A retainer fee is an upfront, recurring charge for more extensive, long-term needs. This arrangement gives you unfettered access to JB Consulting's expertise, our library of templates and plans, legal expertise, and access to our grant writing team. A nonprofit or corporate client may pay a monthly retainer fee for a our help throughout a capital campaign, interim executive assistance, or ongoing training and coaching.
- Hourly — An hourly fee is typically paid to our consulting team for straightforward missions that don’t require extensive time, like weekly coaching or research, or writing of grants.

The Grant Writing Expert
Meet Amanda Jackson Mott, an accomplished Grant Writer and Grants Specialist who has leveraged her talents to produce an impressive nationwide track record impacting philanthropic communities. In her position at JB Consulting, she merges her experience in community-centered philanthropy and nonprofit leadership to deliver transformative and consistent results for our clients.
Amanda has more than 25 years' experience in the nonprofit sector working with clients to research, manage, and acquire grants, enhance programs and impact, and strengthen organizational missions through innovative approaches to donor development.
She holds a Master’s degree from the University of Chicago’s Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice and a Bachelor's degree from The Colorado College. She resides in Eastern Washington State with her husband and 10-year-old daughter where she enjoys gardening, fishing, kayaking, and cooking.
