At JB Consulting Firm, we believe that a well-crafted strategic plan does far more than hang on the wall. It becomes the roadmap that drives your nonprofit’s growth, sustainability, and mission impact. I bring decades of experience as both a nonprofit executive and legal advisor to guide organizations through a collaborative, results-oriented planning process.

Every mission is unique. Every JB Consulting client proposal is likewise unique. New and prospective clients should not expect, nor will they find anywhere on this website, standardized estimates for professional fees, strategies, terms of engagement, contract lengths, scope of services, or marketing materials containing mandatory services beyond , Below is a step-by-step overview of how we engage with a nonprofit to design and implement a strategic plan that aligns your board, leadership team, and stakeholders around your future.
1. Initial Engagement & Discovery
Facilitate an optional kickoff meeting with your board and senior staff to clarify expectations, scope, timeline, and roles.
Conduct listening sessions uniquely designed to accurately reflect the current strategic posture of each client. These discussions typically involve strategically selected stakeholders, often including internal staff, executive leaders, supervisory teams, board members, clients, mission-relevant community leaders, former employees, and key donors.
This preliminary process may include surveys, both internal and external, and data reviews (including programs, finances, and operations) to understand current strengths, challenges, and opportunities. A shared baseline understanding of where you are now...what’s working, what’s not, and why.
2. Formal SWOT Analysis Presentation & Corresponding Leadership Workshops
Conduct a personal, objective, and professional session outlining the relevant strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats representing the crucial guardrails to guide your successful strategic path. Corresponding sessions, if necessary, help refine and set SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound).
Facilitate prioritization of initiatives: what must happen in year 1, what comes in year 2-3, and what can wait.
Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and milestones for each goal. A prioritized “roadmap” of initiatives with clear metrics and timeline that your board and staff can confidently support.
3. Implementation Planning
Translate strategic goals into actionable plans: who does what, by when, what resources are needed, and how progress will be tracked.
Identify risks and dependencies, and build in review cycles.
4. Monitoring, Review & Adaptation
Establish a regular check-in cadence (quarterly, semi-annual) with board and staff to review progress, evaluate KPIs, and adjust course as needed.
Facilitate “lessons learned” sessions to refine strategy implementation and build continuous improvement into your organizational culture.
Support the board in integrating strategic updates into annual reports and governance practices.
